Privacy Policy

This policy explains what BharatBriefly collects and why. The short version: we collect as little as we can, everything about you is optional, and we do not sell anything to anyone.

1. What we collect

Anonymous usage measurement. So we can tell whether anyone is reading and which stories are useful, we record:

• pages viewed and stories opened, with how long a story stayed on screen;
• the category and language of what you read;
• a coarse device type (mobile, tablet or desktop);
• the website that referred you, reduced to its bare domain (for example "google.com") — never the full link, which can contain search terms;
• a random identifier your browser generates for itself, stored on your device, which lets us count returning readers.

That identifier is not linked to your name, email or phone, means nothing on any other website, and you can erase it at any time by clearing site data in your browser.

We deliberately do NOT collect:

• your IP address — it is not stored, not even in hashed form;
• any device fingerprint;
• your precise location;
• anything through third-party advertising or analytics networks.

Your Profile (only if you fill it in). The Profile page has five fields — name, email, state, city and phone. Every one is optional, all of them can be left blank, and the entire Service works without them. If you do enter something, it is saved on our servers so your news can be tuned to you and so we can reach you if something needs your attention.

• Your profile is tied to a random identifier your browser creates for the Profile page. It is separate from the analytics identifier above, so filling in the Profile does not attach your name to your reading.
• If you enter an email we send one message asking you to confirm it. Until you click that link the address is marked unverified, and the Profile page shows it as unverified.
• We do not email you anything else unless you ask us to.
• Deleting it: "Log out" on the Profile page erases your name, email, phone and location from our servers as well as from your device. You do not have to ask us, and you do not have to explain why.

Push notifications (only if you turn them on). If you allow notifications, your browser gives us an anonymous subscription address so we can send breaking-news alerts. It identifies a browser, not a person. Turning notifications off in your browser ends it.

Brief AI chat. If you ask a question about a story, the question and the story are sent to an AI model provider to generate the answer. Do not include personal or sensitive information in those questions.

2. Why we collect it

Only to run and improve the Service: to see which stories readers value, to decide what to cover, to fix what is broken, and to prevent abuse. We do not profile you for advertising.

3. Cookies

We use no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The Service stores a small amount of data on your own device (your anonymous identifier, saved stories, and your language and notification preferences). It stays on your device, is first-party, and clearing site data removes it.

4. Who else sees data

• Our hosting and database provider, which runs the servers the Service and its data sit on.
• AI model providers, which receive article text to write briefs, and receive your question if you use Brief AI chat.

We do not sell, rent or trade data with anyone, and we do not share it for advertising.

5. How long we keep it

Anonymous usage records are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted. Push subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe or the address stops working.

6. Your choices

• Clear site data in your browser to erase your identifier and start fresh.
• Turn off notifications in your browser at any time.
• Use private browsing — the Service works fully, and measurement simply does not run.
• Write to us to ask what is held about your identifier, or to have it deleted.

7. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

8. Changes

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it.
