14 MBBS Students Suspended for Ragging at GMC Kamareddy

· India · The Hindu, NDTV

Fourteen second-year MBBS students at Government Medical College (GMC), Kamareddy, have been suspended due to a ragging complaint filed with the National Medical Commission (NMC). The college principal, Dr. B. Valya, stated that the complaint originated from freshers and was forwarded by the NMC. Four students received a six-month suspension, while 10 others were suspended for four months. The incident reportedly involved second-year students entering an unauthorised hostel area, with one student claiming the complaint stemmed from seniors expecting frequent 'good morning' greetings.

Why it matters

This disciplinary action underscores the college's commitment to anti-ragging policies and sends a strong message against such behaviour in medical institutions. It also highlights the ongoing issue of ragging in educational settings across India.
