Applications from Indian students to U.S. undergraduate programs fell 15% in 2025-26, according to a report by Common App. Overall international applications dropped 10% by March 1, 2026, the steepest decline on record. India remains the largest source of international students in the U.S., with over 363,000 enrollments in 2024-25. New U.S. visa policies, including a $100,000 fee for optional post-graduation work, contributed to the decline. The U.S. also replaced 'duration of status' with a 4-year cap on student visas.
