16-Year-Old Girl Flees Child Care Helpline Facility in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh

A 16-year-old girl from Bihar's Vaishali district, identified as Putul Kumari, fled a child care helpline facility in Okdenganj police outpost area of Ballia on Sunday at around 11:15 am by bolting the toilet door and climbing out through a window. She had been brought to the facility during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday by Bairia police Sub-Inspector Sunil Yadav and head constable Sinki Gond after being found missing in Suremanpur three days prior. A case has been registered against Reema, a constable from Bairia police station, and Shilpa, the supervisor of the child care helpline, under Section 261 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act for alleged negligence. The FIR was lodged late Monday night at Ballia City Kotwali on a complaint by District Probation Officer Dr Amarendra Kumar Paushayan.
