19 NC MLAs demand cabinet overhaul, Omar aides removal

· India · India Today, Times of India, NDTV

Nineteen National Conference legislators adopted a resolution in Srinagar seeking a cabinet reshuffle and removal of two of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's close aides, accusing them of interfering in party and administrative affairs. The dissenting MLAs, representing constituencies across the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region, held a nearly four-hour meeting at the Srinagar residence of MLA Qaiser Jamshed Lone and urged the party leadership to drop ministers who have completed two years in office. They have specifically targeted party leader Nasir Aslam Wani and MP Shammi Oberoi, holding them responsible for alleged interference in party affairs. The internal dissent has also led to the removal of senior party leader Mubarak Gul from his recently assigned position as general secretary.

Why it matters

The reshuffle demand directly impacts the stability of Omar Abdullah's government in Jammu and Kashmir, as coalition survival depends on maintaining legislative unity and managing regional factionalism within the National Conference.
