2027 BMW iX5 First Drive: Over 450 Miles of Range and Power Doors
· Automobile · Engadget, Car and Driver
BMW is introducing the upcoming electric iX5 SUV with a range of over 450 miles on a single charge and automated power doors. The vehicle features strain meters at the top of the doors that detect a subtle pull and swing open automatically, closing themselves when the driver steps on the brake pedal. The tested iX5 60 xDrive model delivers 570 horsepower and 593 pound-feet of torque, paired with massaging seats and matte silver exterior paint. Its advanced driver assistance system, branded as Symbiotic Drive, allows hands-free highway steering while enabling manual lane changes and braking without disengaging the system. The vehicle serves as the battery-powered alternative to the two-row X5 and the effective replacement for the iX.
Why it matters
The new BMW iX5 sets a technological benchmark for luxury electric SUVs by combining long-range battery performance with automated entry systems and advanced driver assistance.
