21 Former Cricket Captains Renew Appeal For Imran Khan's Medical Care

· World · Times of India, LiveMint, The Hindu

Twenty-one former international cricket captains from nine nations, including Indian legends Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, and Dilip Vengsarkar, have written to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to demand proper medical treatment for imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The letter serves as a follow-up to an earlier appeal sent in February by 14 former captains after recent developments failed to comply with a Supreme Court directive regarding Khan's hospitalisation and family visits. The 73-year-old former Pakistan captain is currently held in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail and recently underwent a medical examination at Shifa Hospital in Islamabad before being returned to custody. The initial February appeal received no response from the Pakistan government.

Why it matters

The coordinated appeal by legendary international cricketers places global pressure on Pakistan's leadership regarding the health and detention conditions of a former head of state and World Cup-winning captain.
