23,000 Citizenship Certificates Issued Under CAA In West Bengal

West Bengal leader Suvendu Adhikari announced that 23,000 individuals have received citizenship certificates under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the state. This figure represents 10% of the 2.3 lakh total applicants, with hearings for the remaining 90% expected to conclude soon. The Centre recently authorised district magistrates to handle the issuance of these certificates to expedite the process for refugees. Adhikari stated that the government remains committed to supporting Hindu refugees, including the Matua community, who arrived from Bangladesh due to religious persecution. He also dismissed allegations of discrimination regarding the Annapurna cash-transfer scheme, noting that 19.2 lakh Muslim families are among the beneficiaries.
