5 CarPlay navigation apps to replace Apple Maps: Google Maps, Waze and more
· Technology · Engadget, Android Authority
Apple Maps dominates CarPlay by default, but iPhone users have several strong alternatives. Google Maps offers superior traffic data and broader international coverage, though it remains harder to set as a Siri default outside the EU. Waze excels for drivers in heavy traffic with real-time alerts for hazards and speed cameras, though it lacks offline mode and can feel cluttered. Other options provide specialized features for specific driving needs, giving users more choice beyond the default Apple offering.
Why it matters
iPhone users with CarPlay-compatible vehicles gain meaningful navigation alternatives, particularly those seeking better traffic data or real-time hazard alerts. The choice impacts daily commute efficiency and driver awareness of road conditions.
