5-kg Ganesh laddu fetches ₹1.01 crore at Hyderabad auction

A 5-kg Ganesh laddu at Keerthi Richmond Villas in Hyderabad’s Bandlaguda Jagir fetched ₹1.01 crore at an auction held two days before the usual final day of Ganesh Chaturthi in 2026. A group of villa owners collectively bid and purchased the laddu, continuing a community fundraising tradition. The auction amount was lower than the ₹2.32 crore fetched by a 10-kg laddu at the same event in 2025. Proceeds, as in previous years, will be donated to the RV Diya Charitable Trust for its charitable activities. The trust reported spending ₹1.66 crore on programmes during 2025-26, supporting over 750 students, 150 patients, and 300 trainees, among others. The initiative began with a ₹25,000 bid in 2016 and has grown into a multi-crore fundraising effort encouraging residential communities to turn festive traditions into sustained charity drives.
Why it matters
The auction supports the RV Diya Charitable Trust’s programmes, which fund education, healthcare, vocational training, animal welfare, and old-age care for thousands in Hyderabad. It also aims to inspire other residential communities to adopt similar festive fundraising models for social causes.
