8 in custody for murder of CJP activist’s father, Bengal police now say he got minor injury

The West Bengal Police have rejected claims that the father of a CJP activist died from a brutal physical assault, stating instead that he suffered only a minor injury during an incident on August 13. Officials reported that 50-year-old Sheikh Mohammed Mafik died after being admitted to Burdwan Medical College on August 15 due to severe blood pressure fluctuations. Police maintain that medical examinations found no life-threatening injuries on the victim. Eight individuals have been arrested and remanded to police custody in connection with the case, while a manhunt continues for two remaining suspects. A police house guard has been stationed at the residence of the activist, Sheikh Abdul Hafiz, following the incident in Indas, Bankura district.
