82% of Indian Smartphone Buyers Want AI Features, Battery Life Still Top Priority
· Business · The Hindu, Gadgets360
Amazon's July survey of 1,000 Indian mobile shoppers found 82% want AI‑enabled phones for tasks like contextual help, photo editing, and visual search. Demand for adaptive battery management was 11%, but battery life was the most‑asked quality and also the most‑common shortfall, with 22% saying their battery must be fixed. Performance and speed topped preferences at 87%, followed by battery life at 79% and camera at 77%. Only 7% shop for phones under ₹15,000, while 42% target the ₹25,000‑₹50,000 band, and 33% are ready to spend ₹50,000 or more, split between ₹50,000‑₹75,000 (15%) and above ₹75,000 (17%). Over half expect to keep phones for two years or longer, yet 48% plan an upgrade in the next three months, driven more by reviews and ratings (47%) than by price bargains (35%).
Why it matters
Buyers’ preference for AI and battery life shows phone makers must balance new features with core hardware performance, and Indian consumers are willing to spend up to ₹75,000 for devices that meet these expectations.
