A Hacker Targeted High-Stakes Poker Players With Malware That Exposed Their Cards
· Technology · Wired, Engadget
Professional poker player Alex discovered MeshAgent malware on his machine on April 24, 2026, which captured his screen and controlled his computer during online sessions. The malware, attributed to a threat actor, enabled opponent OxOO to view Alex's hole cards, with the same player appearing at his table for 10 of 11 suspicious sessions. Alex's Claude AI agent flagged the intrusion after his SQL database crashed, and analysis of hand histories revealed OxOO's win rate was statistically impossible. Hundreds of players across multiple years were allegedly targeted, with Alex losing approximately $30,000 while many peers suffered far greater losses.
