AAP Accuses Centre of Imposing Black Emergency in Delhi
· India · The Hindu, NDTV
The Aam Aadmi Party has accused the BJP-led central government of imposing a black emergency in Delhi following the detention of protesters heading to Jantar Mantar. The demonstration, called by the Cockroach Janata Party and various youth organisations, demands the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of vote theft. To manage the expected 7,000 protesters, authorities deployed 23,000 security personnel and closed 45 metro stations across the city. AAP leaders, including Saurabh Bharadwaj, criticised the heavy security presence as an attempt to suppress non-violent dissent.
Why it matters
The mass detention of protesters and the closure of major transit hubs significantly disrupt daily life for Delhi residents and escalate political tensions between the AAP and the central government.
