Tirath Singh, son of an Aam Aadmi Party sarpanch and brother of a block samiti member, was shot dead near a gurdwara in a village in Punjab's Amritsar district on Monday night. His friend Ranjit Singh was also injured in the attack by motorcycle-borne assailants who fired seven to eight rounds. Police suspect an old rivalry involving Tirath's brother Karaj Singh, while the family alleges the killing followed a dispute over stopping the accused from consuming drugs two days earlier. An FIR has been registered against four village residents, including Gurdit Singh, and raids are underway but no arrests have been made.
