Cockroach Janta Party leader Abhijeet Dipke has renewed calls for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to resign following allegations that Kumar previously offered a BJP candidature to a former Kerala chief secretary. Former official Jiji Thomson claimed that Kumar, while a serving IAS officer in 2016, attempted to persuade him to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections for the BJP. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has also accused Kumar of facilitating political recruitment for the BJP during his time as an IAS officer. The Election Commission has rejected these allegations, maintaining that its internal deliberations and decisions, including voter roll revisions, follow standard statutory procedures. Dipke has announced plans for a nationwide protest beginning October 2 in Mumbai if the CEC does not step down.
