Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee alleged on September 1, 2026, in Kolkata that a party worker named Tarik was tortured in police custody after being arrested over a dispute on a signboard at Banerjee's Camac Street office, sustaining a serious head injury. O'Brien reportedly fell on the stairs as police pushed past party workers during the operation.
