Abhishek Sharma Becomes Fastest to 2000 T20I Runs
· Sports · Indian Express, Times of India
India opener Abhishek Sharma has become the fastest player to reach 2,000 T20I runs in terms of balls faced, achieving the milestone in his 1,024th delivery during the third T20I against the West Indies at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. He surpassed his former captain Suryakumar Yadav, who previously held the record by taking 1,164 deliveries to reach the mark. In July, Abhishek also became the fastest batter to smash 100 sixes in T20Is, eclipsing West Indies player Evin Lewis during the series opener against England. Making his T20I debut in July 2024, Abhishek currently ranks second in the ICC T20I Rankings for batters. Meanwhile, the five-match series remains level at 1-1 after West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl in the Indore fixture.
Why it matters
The record solidifies Abhishek Sharma's status as one of the world's most explosive opening batters in modern T20 cricket, strengthening India's top-order batting depth.
