· Sports · NDTV Sports, Indian Express

Abhishek Sharma struck a 38-ball 113 against New Zealand in the third T20I at Rajkot, taking his career tally to four T20 International centuries and moving past Virat Kohli's three. The left-handed opener reached the landmark in his 22nd innings, the joint-fastest by an Indian alongside Rohit Sharma. Sharma is now three centuries behind Babar Azam, who leads the all-time list with seven T20I hundreds. India posted 240 for 5 and bowled New Zealand out for 166 to win the match by 74 runs and clinch the series 3-0. Sharma was named Player of the Match for his explosive innings.

Why it matters

Sharma's record-breaking century cements his status as India's premier T20I opener and strengthens his case for a regular spot in the World Cup squad. The series sweep also extends India's unbeaten home run in bilateral T20I series.
