About 1,500 pilgrims stranded along the Kedarnath trek route after a landslide in the Chirbasa area were safely evacuated on Monday. Joint rescue teams from the State Disaster Response Force, the National Disaster Response Force, and the District Disaster Response Force escorted the pilgrims to Gaurikund. The pilgrims had been stranded since Sunday night due to debris and continuous rockfall near the Chirbasa helipad that made movement hazardous. The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand remained suspended for the second consecutive day on Sunday because of incessant heavy rain.
