Accused in Hyderabad Aston Martin Crash Tests Negative for Drugs, Alcohol

· India · Hindustan Times, NDTV, India Today

Preliminary drug and alcohol tests for the accused in the August 16 fatal road accident in Hyderabad have returned negative, according to the Telangana Police. The incident involved an Aston Martin striking a 26-year-old employee, resulting in her death. DCP Ritiraj of the Balanagar Zone stated that blood and urine samples were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis. Because the offence carries a maximum punishment of five years under Section 106(1) of the BNS, police issued a notice to the accused rather than making an arrest, citing Supreme Court guidelines in the Arnesh Kumar v. State of Bihar case. The vehicle has been seized, and authorities are awaiting a final report from the Motor Vehicle Inspector.

Why it matters

The case has drawn public scrutiny regarding road safety and the legal process for luxury vehicle accidents, with police awaiting further forensic results to determine if charges will be modified.
