Accused in Sai Krishna Custodial Death Case Surrenders to SIT

· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times

Suresh, named as the fourth accused in the alleged custodial death of 25-year-old Gade Sai Krishna, surrendered before the Special Investigation Team on Thursday. He had been evading authorities for several months following the incident, which occurred after the victim was taken into custody by the Krishnalanka police on May 9. Suresh is identified as a close associate of the suspended Circle Inspector S.S.V.V. Nagaraju, who is also an accused in the case. The SIT has previously arrested the Circle Inspector, four constables, and a home guard in connection with the death and the subsequent destruction of evidence, including the deletion of CCTV footage. The victim's mother, G. Vijaya Lakshmi, filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court alleging that police tortured her son and disposed of his body, which remains missing.

Why it matters

The surrender of a key associate provides investigators with a new lead in a high-profile case involving allegations of police brutality and evidence tampering in Vijayawada.
