ADNOC Partners With G42 And OpenAI To Deploy Physical AI In Oil Operations
· Technology · Indian Express, Reuters
Abu Dhabi state oil company ADNOC signed an agreement this week with AI firms G42 and OpenAI to deploy advanced AI capabilities across its energy operations. The deal aims to use AI to improve operational efficiency and address complex engineering challenges in the oil sector. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the agreement marks a shift where the AI industry can now repay the energy sector after long relying on it for power. The collaboration signals the arrival of physical AI — autonomous systems such as robots, camera-bots and self-driving cars that perceive, reason and act in the real world rather than remaining purely digital. Unlike today's chatbots and code assistants that exist only in software, physical AI combines models with sensors and actuators to operate in actual physical space. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is credited with popularising the term and framing it as the next major wave of AI innovation.
Why it matters
Energy giants and AI firms are moving from experimental pilots to commercial deployment of autonomous systems that can directly boost industrial productivity and create a clear revenue path for costly AI infrastructure.
