AFSPA Extended for Six Months in Parts of Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in parts of Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland for another six months starting October 1, 2026. In Manipur, the disturbed area declaration covers the entire State except for areas under the jurisdiction of 13 police stations across five valley districts. The 1958 law grants sweeping powers to the Army and Central Armed Police Forces in regions designated as disturbed areas. Manipur has experienced ethnic violence since May 3, 2023, prompting ongoing security measures by the central government.
