· India · NDTV, Hindustan Times
Civic authorities in Delhi have scheduled the phase-wise demolition of a building in Satya Niketan following a collapse that killed seven people. The structure was declared unsafe by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi after an inspection revealed it lacked essential support pillars and beams. Currently, the building is being held in place by 18-20 iron guardrails as a temporary safety measure. Six other neighbouring buildings have been sealed, and the Lieutenant Governor has ordered a safety audit of all paying guest accommodations across the city.
Why it matters
The demolition and subsequent safety audits directly impact residents and students living in PG accommodations across Delhi, as authorities move to prevent further structural failures.
