Ahmedabad Police Busts International 'Boss Scam' Cyber Ring

· India · Hindustan Times, NDTV, News18

The Ahmedabad Police have dismantled a cybercrime network that provided infrastructure to operators in Pakistan and China for fraudulent activities. Commissioner of Police Anupam Singh Gehlot confirmed that the gang, which operated for four to five years, facilitated cyberattacks by providing SIM cards and OTPs to foreign-based criminals. Authorities have arrested two individuals from West Bengal and recovered devices capable of managing 4,500 SIM cards. The investigation has linked the group to 251 registered complaints across 26 Indian states. Police have deactivated nearly 10,000 devices connected to the network, which had shifted its operations from Telegram to WhatsApp to avoid detection.

Why it matters

The bust disrupts a major source of infrastructure for international cyber-fraudsters targeting Indian citizens, potentially reducing the volume of financial scams linked to foreign-operated call centers.
