Speaking on the sidelines of GitHub Universe 2026 in San Francisco, GitHub COO and CMO Kyle Daigle stated that the platform now hosts 225 million users. Out of this total user base, 50 million developers use GitHub Copilot on a daily basis. Developers pushed 13.5 billion contributions in 2026, surpassing the combined total of 2024 and 2025. Daigle noted that open-source maintainers and new coders are increasingly leveraging AI agents to manage architectural decisions and build projects.
