AI makes discoveries in mathematics, computer science, physics, OpenAI says

OpenAI announced that its AI models have made three new discoveries in mathematics, computer science and physics. The breakthroughs include proving the local smoothing conjecture in every spatial dimension, disproving the Exponential Time Hypothesis and mathematically rigorous proof of quantum chromodynamics. Alex Iosevich, a University of Rochester harmonic analysis specialist, called the mathematical proof a "historic development" that could "change drastically" the field. OpenAI reached out to external scientists to turn its raw research data into scientific understanding. The company said on Monday that the discoveries cover harmonic analysis, complexity theory and quantum field theory.
