AIIMS Rishikesh Fined Rs 60,000 for Wrongly Declaring Man HIV Positive

The Uttarakhand State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered AIIMS Rishikesh to pay Rs 60,000 in compensation to a patient for medical negligence. The commission found that the hospital recorded the man as HIV positive in his discharge summary without providing supporting diagnostic evidence. The patient, who was admitted on July 12, 2014, later produced medical reports from two other hospitals in Dehradun confirming he was HIV negative. The commission observed that the incorrect diagnosis caused the man significant mental agony and social stigma. The ruling stated that AIIMS failed to demonstrate that its diagnosis followed accepted medical protocols.
