Air India Flight AI 2379 Probe Confirms Hydraulic Failure and Positive Drug Test

· India · India Today, Times of India, News18

An Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau preliminary report has revealed that Air India flight AI 2379 suffered a simultaneous loss of pressure in all three hydraulic systems on August 4. The Airbus A320, flying from Phuket to Delhi with 137 passengers at Flight Level 360, experienced an autopilot disengagement, stall warning, and an altitude upset that included a 372-foot climb followed by a 292-foot descent. Twenty-four people sustained injuries during the turbulence, with four hospitalized for serious trauma after the aircraft landed in Delhi. The report also noted that the captain tested non-negative for a psychoactive substance during mandatory screening.

Why it matters

The findings expose severe safety hazards involving both critical mechanical failure and pilot impairment on a major international commercial flight, raising questions about aviation oversight.
