Ajinkya Shinde to Lead CJP Protests After Top Leaders Detained in Delhi
· India · Indian Express, Times of India, The Hindu
Following the detention of CJP chief Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, the party's national organisation in-charge Ajinkya Shinde will lead upcoming demonstrations in the national capital. Dipke, Das, and Ranka were detained inside their flight on Saturday morning by a team of Delhi Police personnel and taken to an undisclosed location. In a pre-recorded mobile phone video released from detention, Dipke stated that Shinde would take over leadership of the movement. Shinde is a former AAP worker from Alibaug in Maharashtra and a computer science graduate who joined the CJP upon its formation. Over 2,000 people have been detained in central Delhi as protestors attempted to march toward Jantar Mantar on October 10 against the Special Intensive Revision and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, amid prohibitory orders under Section 163.
Why it matters
The detention of key CJP leadership and imposition of strict prohibitory orders in central Delhi disrupts planned demonstrations against election authorities, placing leadership of the ongoing movement onto Ajinkya Shinde.
