Akash Anand Reaffirms Loyalty to Mayawati, Gears Up for 2027 UP Polls

· India · India Today

Bahujan Samaj Party national coordinator Akash Anand has reaffirmed his commitment to party chief Mayawati and turned his focus toward the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Addressing his first public rally in Bulandshahr after being reinstated in the party, Anand said he considered the Bahujan community his family and would work to make it the country's ruling force. The rally follows his reinstatement on October 5, roughly 25 days after Mayawati expelled him on September 10 following his father-in-law Ashok Siddharth's retirement from politics. Anand thanked Mayawati for giving him another opportunity and stated that he was ready to face every test she set for him. Targeting the ruling BJP government in Uttar Pradesh during his address, Anand alleged that the administration had spent Rs 7,000 crore in public money over the past 10 years on advertisements while failing to deliver on ground development.

Why it matters

The political realignment strengthens the BSP leadership chain in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 assembly elections, signalling a renewed push to mobilize the Bahujan community against the ruling BJP.
