· India · Times of India, Zee News
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav claimed on Wednesday that several MLAs from the ruling BJP-led alliance in Uttar Pradesh are in contact with his party ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Yadav stated that while many lawmakers are reaching out, the party wants to avoid making commitments it cannot honour. The remarks coincided with the SP formally entering the Rajya Sabha contest by filing nomination papers for candidates Professor Ram Gopal Yadav and Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani. Polling for 11 Rajya Sabha seats across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand is scheduled for October 16, with terms for sitting members expiring on November 25. In response, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya countered that 25 SP MLAs are actually in touch with the BJP.
