Alan Shearer Discusses Premier League Scoring Record and Manchester City's Erling Haaland
· Sports · BBC Sport, Indian Express
Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has stated that Erling Haaland could eventually surpass his Premier League record of 260 goals if the Norwegian forward remains at Manchester City. Shearer scored 260 goals across 14 seasons in the English top flight, while Haaland has netted 120 goals in over four seasons. Shearer recalled leaving home at age 15 to play for Southampton and later winning the Premier League title with Blackburn Rovers before joining his boyhood club, Newcastle United, in 1996. He reached two FA Cup finals with Newcastle but did not win further silverware before retiring.
Why it matters
The all-time Premier League goalscoring record remains a key milestone in English football, with modern players like Erling Haaland and previously Harry Kane tracking the historic benchmark set by Alan Shearer.
