Alexander Zverev Routs Arthur Fery to Reach Vienna Semis
· Sports · BBC Sport, ABC News (AU)
Alexander Zverev secured a dominant 6-0 6-2 victory over Britain's Arthur Fery in just 58 minutes to reach the semi-finals of the Vienna Open. The German top seed, who is set to replace Jannik Sinner at the summit of the men's rankings, dropped only six points on serve during the match. Fery struggled physically after receiving treatment on his leg during his previous round against Lorenzo Musetti. Zverev is aiming for his third title of the year following victories at the French Open and US Open. He will face either Australian fifth seed Alex de Minaur or Italy's Matteo Berrettini in the next round.
Why it matters
The victory cements Alexander Zverev's rise to the world number one ranking in men's tennis, capitalizing on injuries to rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
