Amazon adds nanomatte display to Echo Show 16 with bigger screen and thinner body
· Technology · Engadget, Bloomberg, Android Authority
Amazon unveiled the Echo Show 16, a 16-inch smart display featuring a new glare-reducing nanomatte finish developed with Corning to minimize reflections while preserving color accuracy. The model has a bigger screen than the Echo Show 15, offering 10 percent more viewing area, and is nearly 40 percent thinner due to a redesigned anodized aluminum frame. The device includes eight custom micro woofers and two tweeters for improved audio, plus a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera with Visual ID facial recognition that can identify users from up to 17 feet away. Amazon states the unit has 20 percent more computing power than its predecessor and runs the updated Alexa assistant, which can generate interactive content in real time, such as product comparison charts during shopping.
Why it matters
The nanomatte technology addresses a common complaint with smart displays by reducing glare in bright rooms, making the Echo Show 16 more usable in diverse Indian homes; its larger screen and improved audio also position it as a stronger competitor in the smart display market.
