Amazon Alexa Tablets Point Toward a Potential New Smartphone
· Technology · Wired, CNBC
Amazon's recent rebrand of its tablet lineup and introduction of advanced AI features offer a potential blueprint for a future Android-powered Amazon phone. A Reuters report from earlier this year revealed that a device codenamed Transformer is under development with the Alexa+ AI assistant as its core focus. The new tablets feature a persistent Ask Alexa widget, live conversation modes, and On-Screen Intelligence that can read display content to answer contextual queries. These capabilities mirror features found on modern smartphones running Google's Gemini or Apple's Siri. While Amazon executive Kevin Keith declined to confirm smartphone plans, the company previously attempted to enter the smartphone market with the discontinued 2014 Fire Phone.
