Amazon Introduces Alexa Feature to Help Spot Scams

· Technology · TechCrunch

Amazon has launched a new AI-powered feature for its Alexa for Shopping assistant designed to help customers determine whether messages received from the company are legitimate or scams. The system checks incoming communications against billions of messages sent globally by Amazon, analyzing sender information, content, timing, and metadata. Company data shows that approximately 360,000 customers reach out to customer service every year questioning the authenticity of messages they receive. The tool aims to address prevalent scam tactics such as fake order confirmations, Prime membership renewal alerts, account suspension warnings, package delivery notifications, and job scams. The new capability is accessible through both the Amazon website and mobile app.

Why it matters

Shoppers can now instantly verify the authenticity of suspicious messages, reducing the risk of falling victim to phishing and impersonation scams that mimic Amazon communications.
