AMD data center revenue doubles in record $13.4 billion quarter

· Business · Ars Technica, Billboard

AMD posted record third-quarter revenue of $13.4 billion, up 45 percent year-over-year, driven by a 97 percent surge in data center segment to $8.5 billion. The company attributed the growth to strong demand for EPYC enterprise server CPUs and the launch of Instinct MI450 GPUs. However, gaming revenue plummeted 40 percent to $773 million due to lower semi-custom console sales. Operating margins in the data center business expanded from 25 to 34 percent, with operating income surging 168 percent to $2.88 billion.

Why it matters

AMD's data center momentum signals continued investor confidence in its AI and server chip push, while the gaming decline highlights the console cycle risk facing semiconductor firms. If AMD hits its $17 billion Q4 target, it would surpass Intel in annual revenue for the first time, reshaping the x86 market dynamics.
