Union home minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Siliguri, accusing her administration of delaying land acquisition for the India-Bangladesh border fencing. Shah stated that the Centre had repeatedly pleaded with Banerjee to hand over the necessary land for national security, but the administration failed to do so until her exit. In contrast, Shah praised current West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for swiftly approving administrative requests and handing over 11,029 acres of land to security forces within 100 days of taking office. During his two-day visit to the state, Shah inaugurated infrastructure and administrative projects worth ₹189 crore for the Sashastra Seema Bal. He also emphasized that the Union home ministry has prioritized securing the strategically sensitive 60-kilometre Siliguri Corridor, known as the Chicken's Neck.
