· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times

Spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi arrived in Mysuru on Monday for a two-day visit, participating in the Brahmasthanam Mahotsavam at the Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt in Bogadi II Stage and inaugurating a new 100-bed block at the Amritakripa Multi Speciality Hospital in Roopanagar. As part of the Rural Women Empowerment Programme, scholarships were distributed to 50 students since 2020, and under the Amrita SREE and Amrita Sahaya Nidhi programmes, sarees and financial assistance were given to 250 women, with a total of 500 rural Karnataka women receiving support during the programme. MP and cardiologist C.N. Manjunath digitally inaugurated the hospital block, describing Mata Amritanandamayi as a divine ambassador, and stressed that education should go beyond literacy to include values and samskara. MLA G.T. Deve Gowda also emphasized sharing natural resources with fellow humans and other living creatures.

Why it matters

The visit provided tangible support to 500 rural women in Karnataka through scholarships and financial assistance, while the new 100-bed hospital block aims to expand accessible medical treatment for the underprivileged and middle class.
