Anantapur district police have recovered more than 15,000 stolen or lost mobile phones worth ₹30.49 crore to date, Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh said on Thursday. Under the "Mee Mobile – Mee Intiki" programme, 583 phones valued at ₹1.22 crore were delivered to owners at their doorsteps by Circle Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors and village police officers. Special police teams tracked the phones using IMEI-based tracking, technical investigation and the Cyber Division, acting on complaints received through a chatbot launched on June 26, 2022. Of the total recoveries, 1,203 phones were traced to 20 other states and 2,863 to 18 other districts in Andhra Pradesh, with individual phone values ranging from ₹499 to ₹1.41 lakh.
Why it matters
Owners across Anantapur and beyond have been reunited with their devices through doorstep delivery, and the chatbot-plus-IMEI model shows how technology is being deployed to streamline lost-phone recovery for ordinary citizens.
