Anaya Bangar Eligible For Elite Women’s Cricket From 2027
· Sports · Times of India, NDTV Sports, Sportstar
Anaya Bangar has been confirmed as eligible to play elite women’s cricket in Australia starting in March 2027. The decision follows Cricket Australia’s Inclusion of Transgender and Gender Diverse Players in Elite Cricket Policy, under which she applied after her gender-affirming surgery in March. While she is now eligible, Bangar noted that she must still earn a contract with a Women's Big Bash League franchise through her performance. She expressed that the opportunity is deeply emotional, as she had previously feared her career in the sport had ended.
Why it matters
This decision marks a significant milestone in sports inclusivity, providing a clear pathway for transgender athletes to compete in high-level professional cricket leagues.
