Andhra CM seeks central aid after Cyclone Arnab damage
· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking central assistance to address the extensive damage caused by Cyclone Arnab, which hit the coast on Wednesday and left over 28,000 people evacuated. The cyclone, with 115‑125 km/h winds and gusts up to 140 km/h, uprooted trees, collapsed power lines, and destroyed houses, roads and crops across 14 coastal districts. Naidu requested continued NDRF support and an early Central assessment team, and outlined the storm's location near Narsapur and Kakinada and a 1.0‑1.5 m storm surge that inundated low‑lying areas. The State government has mobilised 16 NDRF and 11 SDRF teams for response operations.
Why it matters
The appeal directly impacts the residents of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, whose homes, livelihoods and infrastructure have been devastated, and it determines whether central resources will speed relief and reconstruction efforts.
