Andhra Government Imposed ₹1,000-Crore House Tax Burden, Says CPI(M)

CPI(M) State secretariat member Ch. Babu Rao alleged on Thursday that the Andhra Pradesh government has imposed an additional house tax burden of nearly ₹1,000 crore on urban residents. Speaking in Vijayawada, Mr. Babu Rao stated that the administration has maintained the capital-value-based property tax system introduced by the previous YSRCP government, despite campaign promises to review it. He claimed that this valuation method has driven annual house tax increases of at least 15%, resulting in a cumulative six-year surge of 131%. The opposition leader also criticized the coalition government for adding a further 30% hike this year and condemned the preventive arrest of party leaders in Kakinada. Furthermore, he warned that proposed municipal orders could lead to higher penalties, user charges for waste management, and the privatization of civic services.
