Andhra Pradesh Directs Election Officers to Record Voter Re-verification Videos

· India · Indian Express, The Independent

Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav has instructed District Election Officers to post photos and videos of the re-verification exercise for Absentee, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate and Others (ASDDO) category electors. The directive aims to ensure transparency, requiring DEOs to maintain active social media handles and post at least two photos and two videos daily, tagging the CEO and ECI. From October 8, Booth Level Officers will conduct door-to-door visits to verify electors not included in the draft electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision process. The exercise covers 44,89,512 electors not found at given addresses during enumeration from June 15 to July 24 and 1,73,071 found ineligible during the notice phase. Eligible voters inadvertently left out can submit Form 6 for inclusion, with the final roll to be published on October 16. Testimonials from BLOs, young and first-time voters, and ERO briefings are also to be recorded as part of the transparency drive.

Why it matters

Voters in Andhra Pradesh, especially those previously excluded from draft rolls, will have their inclusion verified through a documented process, potentially increasing electoral transparency and participation. The daily social media updates by election officials aim to build public trust in the revision exercise ahead of the final roll publication on October 16.
