· Business · Hindustan Times, The Hindu
The Andhra Pradesh government, the central government, and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India signed a shareholders' agreement in Visakhapatnam to upgrade four Industrial Training Institutes with an investment of ₹200 crore. The upgrades will be executed under the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through upgraded ITIs scheme, marking the first such approval in the country by the National Steering Committee. A special purpose vehicle will manage the operations, with AM/NS India holding a 51 per cent stake while the state and central governments hold 24.5 per cent each. The Government ITI in Kancharapalem will serve as the main training centre, coordinating with institutes in the Visakhapatnam Industrial Estate, Bobbili, and Narsipatnam. The project aims to introduce modern training facilities, updated courses, and industry-relevant skills to improve student employability.
Why it matters
