Anil Shinde Arrested After Posing as Transgender to Assault Woman in Powai

A 30‑year‑old man, Anil Shinde, was arrested after he posed as a transgender person to enter a woman’s flat in Powai, Mumbai, and sexually assaulted her. Shinde told an elderly relative that he would perform a ritual to bless the couple with a child, gaining entry while the husband was at work. He then asked the young woman to lie down, touched her head under the pretext of the ritual, and sexually assaulted her before taking ₹2,000 and leaving in an autorickshaw. Rapid police action, aided by CCTV footage of the autorickshawing, led to his arrest that same night. The incident was reported to Powai police, who registered a rape case and identified Shinde as a man masquerading as transgender.
