Ankit Bawne Scores 25th First Class Century in Ranji Trophy Opener
· Sports · Indian Express, India Today, Sportstar
Maharashtra batter Ankit Bawne scored an unbeaten 105 off 232 deliveries against Services on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy at Palam. The knock marked his 25th First-Class century, coming on a pitch characterised by uneven pace and bounce. Maharashtra ended the day at 287/5, with Services bowler Arjun Sharma claiming 3/74. Bawne enters the new domestic season aiming to bounce back from a previous campaign where he managed only 72 runs. Despite decades in domestic cricket and past India A performances, a senior national team call-up has remained elusive.
Why it matters
Bawne's persistent domestic performances underscore the immense competition and the difficult bridge for veterans trying to break into the senior Indian Test side.
