Former BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai criticised Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups at a gathering in Coimbatore, saying the film portrays women poorly and questioning how the Central Board of Film Certification cleared it for release. Annamalai also asked what would happen if students were exposed to such content, linking the film's commercial success to the wider problem of derogatory language around women. Toxic, directed by Geetu Mohandas and produced on a reported budget of over Rs 500 crore, opened to Rs 108 crore net at the Indian box office on its first day, with Rs 55.4 crore coming from the Hindi market. The Hindi opening surpassed the Rs 53.95 crore first-day collection of Yash's KGF: Chapter 2. The film also saw a sharp drop on its second day, struggling to match the typical Day 2 surge seen in major pan-Indian releases.
